2026 Track 1 Day 2: Erickson

TRACK 1, DAY 2

Cold Climate Stormwater Center of Excellence

Andy Erickson, University of Minnesota

Wednesday, April 1, 2026 | 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. | Hall A

ABSTRACT

The United States Environmental Protection Agency awarded funding to the University of New Hampshire (UNH), the University of Minnesota (UMN), and the National Municipal Stormwater Alliance (NMSA) to collectively establish a Cold Climate Stormwater Center of Excellence (CCSCoE).

The CCSCoE is one of four national centers, a recognition that this work is vital to our communities and economies and also that stormwater management strategies depend on the place, its geology, built infrastructure, and weather. Together, UNH, UMN, and NMSA will expand their research and engagement throughout cold climates in North America to meet the needs of stormwater professionals.

Funding to engage with and train communities facing stormwater challenges in cold climates will be available, and educational opportunities for students, the next generation of practitioners and researchers, will be increased. This new partnership will reach stormwater practitioners, hear their challenges, and develop research to break through those barriers and find solutions.
